Nash Imagine - Love at Last
“Cameron, how the hell do you not get him?” I laughed loudly and Cameron grunted next to me. He had failed to shoot a guy on our game, and I had to make up for his absence.
“I couldn’t see him I’m sorry!” He moved side to side as his avatar moved across the screen, attempting to get out of harms way. I had been playing this game for years with him, and I was still better than him.
His avatar fell on the ground bloody, and the words GAME OVER came up on his side of the screen. I giggled, “You suck Cam.”
He glanced over at me with an evil look and muttered, “You shut up. I don’t get it. We’ve been playing this game for years, and I still can’t beat you.”
“I’m just better, admit it.” I smirked
In response, he got off of his beanbag in our game room, and walked into the kitchen. “Psht. As if.”
My brother Cameron and I had a very close relationship and all of my friends wished they had as close a relationship with their brother as I did mine. I loved Cam to the end of the Earth, and he was no doubt the only one I trusted with my life. He had been there from the beginning, and we had been through absolutely everything imaginable together.
When I was thirteen and Cam was sixteen, our parents died in a car accident. They were on the way to watch Cam and I in our school play, and had never shown up. During my solo, I looked to the seats reserved for my parents, and they were vacant. When I walked off stage, the principal was waiting for me with a face that told he was the bearer of bad news. A sudden pit in my stomach formed when I saw Cam had tears rolling down his cheeks, and his eyebrows knit tightly. That was the night that changed both of our lives forever.
We had moved from foster home to foster home. I think we moved a total of four times in just one year, but we had always been together. We refused to be split, and since then our bond had gotten nothing but stronger.
Our grandparents took us in, and even put Cam through college when he turned eighteen. Now, Cameron had his own place, I was in college, and everything seemed to be falling into place.
A sudden knock at the door startled me as I snapped out of the memories. Cam yelled from the kitchen, “Hannah! Go get that!” He had a mouthful of some type of food. I grunted out loud and walked to the door. I immediately blushed when I saw who was behind it.
Cameron’s friend Nash stood at the door, all smiles when I made my appearance. He moved in for a hug while speaking. “Hey Hannah, I haven’t seen you in a while! How’s school?”
“It’s really good actually! We’re on break now so I thought I’d come stay with Cam for a while so I don’t have to be cooped up in my dorm room.”
He laughed at my response as we pulled away from the hug. Cameron walked up behind me, and the two smacked hands. They did their little handshake thing and then Nash walked in the door.
I admired him as he walked by. I had a crush on him since the first time I met him. He was Cameron’s best friend and he was almost always over. I knew him like back of my hand, but we hadn’t been as close since I went off to college. I had told Cameron that I thought he was cute, but he said that Nash wasn’t the right guy for me. And that it’d be weird having his sister date his best friend, so I left it alone for the most part. Although I have to admit it was hard.
It seemed everything about him was perfect. Everything from his bright blue eyes you could get lost in, to his feet always walking in some type of Vans. His laugh was the dorkiest thing ever, but you couldn’t help but join in. His smile was contagious and his body, well that was a whole other story. I cant count the times I was turned on by just him sitting shirtless with my brother playing games. He was everything I had ever looked for in a guy, but I guess Cameron didn’t see it.
Nash stayed over for hours, and finally left around 2 am. He and Cameron were making tons of noise in his room, and there was no way I was going to fall asleep. I waited silently in my bed until I heard the door close, and then the house was silent. Just as soon as I was dozing off, my phone buzzed across the dresser. I picked it up and read the number. I didn’t have the number entered in my phone, but when I opened the text up, it said ‘you know I like you a lot right?’ I typed slowly, ‘who is this’ , and an almost immediate reply came. ‘sorry, it’s Nash lol I stole your number off Cam’s phone when he wasn’t looking’. Cameron was always against giving Nash my number, or him giving me his, so it wasn’t hard to believe. I typed back, ‘haha risky…’ and then the reply I had been hoping for came. ‘come to your window, I have a surprise.’
I walked to the window of the guest bedroom in Cam’s house nad stamding on the ledge was Nash. I opened the window and he started moving towards me.
“Nash, what are you doing?”
“Something I should’ve done years ago…”
He pressed his mouth to mine at last. Every single year. month, week, day, moment, and second had been leading up to this moment. Just as his tongue lined my lips, I heard my door creak open.
“Han—Holy shit what the hell!” Cameron was yelling now, rushing over to the window. “Go home Nash! I cant believe you would do that. I told you not to do this to her. She’s been hurt too much, and youre not going to do it again.”
At this Nash sighed, and looked Cam directly in the eyes. “Cameron, I have no interest in hurting your sister. We both have feelings for each other, and it’s real Cam it really is. Don’t you think that when someone can love someone that’s so far away, for so many years, knowing that it’ll never be accepted is proof? I’ve loved your sister since the day I met her, and I don’t see why you cant just let it happen. God help me Cameron if I ever hurt your sister you can beat my ass right here and I’ll never talk to her or you again.”
Almost afraid to speak up, I conquered my fear and spoke lightly. “Cam, t’s true. You’ve known about it. I understand you’re being a protective brother, and I really appreciate it. But I really do love him. Please Cam.”
Nash slipped his hands around my shoulder and laced his other hand with mine. Cameron’s face was unreadable, bit it soon transformed. He loosened up and smiled. “you guys are right. I’m sorry for holding you back for so many years, I just don’t want Hannah to get hurt you know?”
“I swear on my life Cameron I’ll never hurt your sister. Trust me.” At this comment by Nash, Cameron nodded his head. “So, whataya say Cam, can I date your sister?”
Cameron laughed and nodded.
Overcome with joy, Nash pressed his lips to mine fast, and Cameron held out his hand. “Not while I’m in the room please. Or I might just change my mind.” He laughed and walked out of the room.
Nash looked into my eyes and embraced me. “I’m so glad I finally told you.”
“Believe me, I am too.”
